As we head into a new year, I’m thinking about my grandpa, who turned 100 in 2023. That is a lot of years to celebrate!
In July, he had a 100th birthday party that he had been looking forward to all year. My cousin and I were tasked with photographing the event, and we went around capturing all the details and all of the people who came from near and far to celebrate.
As the light burst from my flash while I took a photo of my grandpa in his chair, he said, “What are you taking all of those pictures for…I will never see them. No one prints anything out anymore.”
“Why Grandpa,” I thought, “Yes, that is so true!”
I felt like he could be my spokesperson for my business motto: “Getting you out of the Cloud and onto your walls.”
Ever since digital photography came about, we are creating and storing more and more images electronically, but we are displaying them less. We are sharing photos more, but sharing on social media has a short life, and thus so do our images.
I made sure to order prints right away after the party to mail to him. And I presented him with a photo book of the party for Christmas. I love that he was able to pass it around for extended family to thumb through. I loved seeing the smile on his and others’ faces as they re-lived this wonderful day.
This is what I want for all of my clients – the continual joy that is experienced by viewing portraits of our loved ones day after day. It can be viewing them on a wall, in a book, or as a print on the fridge.
I want you to walk past your family photo on your way to make coffee in the morning, or to peer over your laptop at the frame on your desk of your former senior who may be in college now , or to glimpse at your child’s portrait in the hallway after you tuck them in to sleep at night.
Let’s make it happen together! I chose a boutique full-service photography model for this very reason - so that I can offer beautiful photographic product options and can also help you decide how to display them in your home.
I wish you a wonderful 2024 filled with new memories that you can cherish. And I hope that these memories will not stay trapped in your phone or buried in a folder on your laptop. Let's get you out of the Cloud and onto your walls (or into your hands:)).
