When I sat down with Josh at his senior portrait planning session, he knew right away that he did not want the mountain backdrop that most seniors in Colorado request. I was immediately excited to hear what he wanted to do. He said that he had always loved spending time in the city and would love an urban backdrop.
He sent me some ideas that he had from seeing some images of a railroad bridge in Denver, and I did some research as well in addition to some location scouting. We ended up planning his senior portrait session in downtown Denver.

We began our senior portrait experience at Millennium Bridge. I've always loved architecture photography, so being able to incorporate that in the backdrop of his Denver senior pictures was really fun. The bridge is very modern and has views of the downtown buildings from the top. His casual outfit worked great at this location.
After an outfit change, we spent some time at Confluence Park. The great thing about urban locations is that you often have nature mixed into your setting. This gave us the opportunity to get some senior portrait images with some natural backgrounds like trees and leaves, which created variety in Josh's gallery. The warm light filtering down through the trees looked really incredible and made for some of my favorite images.
We proceeded to walk over the pedestrian bridge, getting some nice images with the river in the background. I almost got mowed down by a bicycle, which was totally my fault! I guess this is one of the hazards of being a photographer:).
We walked down a street with shops and restaurants on the other side of the river and found some very cool old brick. I love finding texture for senior portraits! We also found some colorful murals and great lighting outside some of the buildings and in the alleyways.
Next, we climbed the stairs to the third bridge. I used some fun angles on the stairs, got a great shot in black and white and captured some images with buildings in the distance. There was no shortage of amazing senior portrait spots!
It was time for a third outfit change! I always recommend at least two outfits for senior portraits, and three is usually perfect. Josh's final outfit choice went well with the urban backdrop of downtown Denver.
For the final part of Josh's Denver senior photo session, we made our way to the old railroad bridges that had inspired Josh's senior session. Talk about a phenomenal location! The industrial look of the bridges paired with the lighting of dusk was pure magic. We also found vines and took some incredible images. We had to stop shooting when it started to get dark, but I knew we had an amazing senior portrait gallery.
From beginning to end, this was an amazing senior portrait session. It goes to show how important the consultation and planning process is. As a a full-service boutique photographer, I would never meet you for the first time at a location. I believe in customizing and personalizing each session to the individual. Sitting with Josh and listening to his vision made his senior portrait experience unique and memorable.
